Newsletter – Autumn 2018

Autumn in some respects, for me, matches spring as an ideal time to walk and enjoy the countryside. The light is still good on clear days, the midges are gone, there are opportunities to hear the stag roar and nature’s harvest is there to tingle taste buds.

But not all news is cheerful. A report came into Dumfries & Galloway Access Forum this week of the beach at the south end of Loch Grannoch being despoiled by irresponsible littering. It doesn’t take much to spoil a place for others and litter once there seems to attract more. So lets all stop this. The US national parks have a slogan,  ‘pack it in, then pack it out’.  Let’s all put it into practice.

Recently I had the privilege of watching  the intrepid group of walkers taking part in the Ultra Marathon across Scotland on the Southern Upland Way.  Congratulations to all contestants, especially the winner who completed the whole in about 65 hours. What an inspiration.
